Accommodation
The Achill Archaeology Centre (office for the Achill Archaeological Field School) is based in the village of Dooagh on Achill Island, County Mayo.
The Accommodation premises which is situated next door to the Archaeology Centre is a modern, hostel-type building that comprises 2-Bed and 4-Bed units, many with en-suite shower and lavatory, plus an additional Bathroom and Shower on the Ground floor. One floor of the building houses the female students and there is another for male students. There is a fully equipped kitchen with Cooker, Fridges, Microwave cooker and Dishwasher, a Utility Room with a Washing machine and Dryer. There is a large Dining area and a Common Room with TV and Video. Wifi was installed in the Accommodation block in 2011 and is available free-of-charge to students. The premises is centrally heated and Hot Water is available at all times. The accommodation is self catered, so everything is supplied except food, and students may wish to bring their own towels.
The School also has access to other nearby premises of the same standard as the aboveand is used as required. Students partcipating in the shorter courses are ususally housed in this accommodation.The Staff house is also situated in the village of Dooagh.
In the Village of Dooagh, there is a small Grocery Store and a number of Pubs and Restaurants. The village of Keel, located some 2 miles from Dooagh has a Grocery Store and Post Office, plus several restaurants and coffee shops. Achill Sound which is some 9 miles distant from Dooagh has a large Supermarket, Hotels, shops and a Post Office.
There is a Catholic Church is Pollagh, c. 1 mile form Dooagh and a Church of Ireland in Dugort some 4 miles distant from Dooagh.
