Archaeology for Young People 2011

One or two day & weekend courses for students & teachers - tailored for Junior Certificate, Transition Years & Leaving Certificate.

How can Archaeology help young people to learn?
Archaeology is academically stimulating and encourages young people to use their imagination and appreciate their own and different cultures.

Archaeology is practical and 'hands-on' and encourages young people to learn about how an excavation is organised and carried out.

Archaeology is a truly interdisciplinary subject and can be used to teach children about Geography, History, Science, Technology, Maths, Irish and English.

The Achill Archaeology Centre offers tailor-made courses for 1-day or longer.    National School students or students studying for their Junior or Leaving Certificates, as well as students taking transition year courses are welcome.

Sample topics include:
Introduction to Irish Archaeology for Young People

Field Trips to local sites

Participation in the on-going excavation

Practical tuition

How to 'read' a Big Mac box
Death, decay and dating

Man, nature and formation processes
