Location

Achill Archaeological Field School is located in the beautiful village of Dooagh on Achill Island.

Achill Island is situated on the west coast of Ireland and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The island, which is Irelands largest, is accessible from the mainland by a bridge. The island is located in County Mayo which boasts a stunningly beautiful unspoilt environment with a magnificent attraction for visitors.

Dooagh is 10km from Achill Sound, with one shop/post office, three pubs and one restaurant. There is a wonderful sense of community spirit and participants of the Field School become integrated with the local community quite quickly.

The Island boasts four outstanding blue flag beaches and provides a haven for all water sports enthusiasts. Hill walkers can enjoy the breathtaking views from Slievemore and Croaghan mountains, where there are a variety of splendid walks to choose from.
