Achill Archaeological Field School conducts custom tours on Achill Island and the West of Ireland.
Guided Tours on offer in 2012. All Tours are guided by qualified Archaeologists
Achill Island Tour 1: Slievemore Deserted Village, Old Graveyard Slievemore, Megalithic Tomb, Achill Mission Church and settlement, Submerged forest, Childrens' Graveyard, Keem Village and Captain Boycott's House.
Achill Island Tour 2: Crannog, Achill Sound Old Railway, Greenway, Promontory Forts, Kildavnet Church and graveslabs, Kildavnet Tower House and Atlantic Drive.
Achill Island 1/2 Day Tour: Keem Bay Village and Field Systems , Capt. Boycott's house, Penal Altar, Slievemore Deserted Village and Slievemore Early Medieval Graveyard and cross slabs.
Clew Bay Archaeological Tour. Included in this Tour are prehistoric standing Stones, Stone Rows, the famous Boheh Stone covered with prehistoric art, a neolithic Court Tomb and an Early Medieval ecclesiastical site.
North Mayo Tour. Ceide Fields Visitor Centre and Tour of prebog Field walls, Neolithic Court Tombs and a Bronze Age Wedge Tomb, Medieval Abbey, Ogham stone, Round Tower and tallest standing stone in Ireland.
Galway City Tour. Medieval town wall, St. Nicholas's Church, Blakes Castle and Lynch's Castle, Spanish Arch, the Cathedral and the University
Midlands of Ireland Tour: This fabulous tour takes in some of Ireland's outstanding archaeological sites e.g. the Early Medieval site at Clonmacnoise with its 7 Churches, the Iron Age complex at Rath Croghan and the cave of Owenagath, the Iron Age trackway at Corlea Bog, the spectacular Medieval Abbey at Boyle, and the outstanding Romanesque doorway at Clonfert Cathedral. Not to be missed!
Inishkea Tour
Involves a boat trip of c. one hour each way to visit the Inishkea Islands. This tour will visit the Bailey Mor on Inishea North, an artifical mound that contaiins the remains of an early medieval site, including house structures and cross slabs and the only known figurative cross slab in Ireland. This tour is available for groups of 10 persons or more.
Clare Island
Involves a boat trip of c. 40 minutes each way. Visit Grace O'Malleys Castle (Tower House), promontory forts, megalithic tombs and 19th century lazy bed cultivation ridges. A minimum of 10 persons is required for this tour.
