The Achill Archaeological Field School, based on Achill Island, in County Mayo, Ireland, is a Training School for students of Archaeology, Anthropology and related disciplines.
The Field School provides hands-on practical archaeology training. Core components include archaeology methodology, excavation, drawing, survey and recording procedures, environmental archaeology and introduction to archaeological ceramics.
A hallmark of the Achill Field School is our reputation for the quality of our hands-on practical training. We provide a range of training courses and modules, from 1 week to 10 weeks, catering for small group sizes, with all instruction delivered directly by highly qualified and experienced archaeologists and environmental scientists. Students of the Field School receive Academic Credits from the National University of Ireland with whom the Achill Field School is officially affiliated (www.nuigalway.ie/international-summer-school).
In June 2011, the Achill Field School celebrated its 20th Anniversary. Over this period the Field School has hosted several thousand students from all over the world with the vast majority from North American universities. We have listed on our website (www.achill-fieldschool.com) all North American universities to whom we have successfully transferred academic credit for students. For the convenience of students, we have activated links to all these universities on our website.
