2012 Tour Programme
Clew Bay Archaeological Tour :� Price €100 pp
A full day tour of the impressive archaeological sites located around Clew Bay in County Mayo.
The tour begins at the15th century Medieval Augustinian Abbey at Burrishoole, founded by Richard (MacWilliam) Burke. Tis will be followed by a tour of a 15th century Tower House, known as Rockfleet Castle. Rockfleet was once the home of the famouse Pirate and Sea Queen, Grace O'Malley and her second husband, Richard Burke, known as Ricar-an-Iarainn (Richard in irons because of the chain mail armour he wore).
After this we continue on to the southern side of Clew Bay to see the Neolithic rock art site ‘the Boheh Stone’ then on to the foot of Ireland's most holy mountain, Croagh Patrick, where we visit the Bronze Age enclosure and standing stones in the salt marsh at Killadangan, and the Augustinian Friary of Murrisk.
After this we turn in land to visit the wonderful Clapper Bridge at Bunlahinch and on the way home call in to see the Wedge Tomb at Srahwee.

Inishkea North Tour: Price €100 pp
A Boat trip of c. 45 minutes duration from Achill to Inishkea North island is an experience not to be missed.�����
En route, the boat will pass Duvillaun Isand which like Inishkea North has a wealth of archaeological sites dating to the Medieval period.��
Inishkea North is dominated by the Bailey M�r, a huge man-made mound that encapsualtes a variety of stone-built structures, within which are artefacts dating to the early medieval period.�

On the shore is the now deserted post medieval village with a linear row of houses in various states of dilapidation.

North Mayo Tour: Price €125 pp
Drive to Mullranny from Achill and take the scenic route along the coast to North Mayo, viewing the spectacular vista ot the north face of Slievemore Mountain.
Stop at the world-famous Ceide Fields Visitor Centre, view the Video presentation and avail of a Guided Tour of the Neolithic Field walls.
Travel on towards Ballycaste, stopping to see the tallest (now Christianised) standing stone in Ireland.
Continue on to the Brestagh Ogham Stone which stants 8 feet tall and is incised with the earliest known writing in Ireland.
Vist Rathfran Dominican Friary, founded in A.D. 1274 and the nearby Neolithic / Early Bronze AGe Rathfran Wedge Tomb
Continue to the town of Killala to view the Round Tower that dates to the 9th / 10th Century A.D.
Return to Achill via Ballina.
